Why Doctor’s prescribe yoga for mental health!!

Yoga is widely known for its physical benefit, stress management, flexibility, sense of peace and happiness – to name a few. On top of this, researchers are beginning to understand more about yoga’s therapeutic benefits for mental health concerns. A lot of Psychiatric diagnosis also includes yoga and meditation, for a reason. According to Yogic Science, a Human Body consists of 5 total layers or sheathes, which is known as the Panchakosha’s. These are Annamayakosha(Food body), Manomayakosha(mental body), Pranamayakosha(Energetic body), Vigyanamayakosha(knowledge body) and Anandamayakosha(Bliss Body). Here we can work only at the first 2 bodies, the Food body (right kind of food & physical activity, i.e yoga) and mental body (thoughts and emotions). The third body, the Energetic body, is the store house for all the traumas a human has ever been through. Yoga, pranayamas and mediation are the only existing tools that can slowly work on these collected traumas in the energetic level, clean it, and keep the energy vibrant. Even if a person doesn’t remember these traumas, which are usually stored at the subconscious mind, can be healed naturally by regular practice of yoga and meditation.
For instance, yoga has been shown to help with the following:

a) Fighting depression:
Depression is usually caused due to accumulated frustrations that has stacked itself for years. Studies show that yoga helps not only physical but slowly brings the person out of depression, giving them a proper perspective of life.
b) Anger Management:
Anger is usually an outburst of emotions and hormones not handled in a healthy way. Research shows, that regular practice of yoga brings perfect balance throughout the body, mind and emotions, and allows the person to live in a “flow” state.
c) Reducing Anxiety:
Numerous studies have shown, that yoga reduces anxiety naturally. Anxiety is such a common syndrome, but yet once it starts, its quiet hard to handle. Here is where Yoga, meditation and pranayamas (breathing techniques) comes into play. It also helps in panic attack and performance anxiety.
d) Improve Sleep quality:
Most people who do yoga regularly have reported that their quality of sleep has improved drastically. Not just that, they wake up alive and vibrant for the day. Hence these days, yoga, meditation and walk in the nature is highly recommended by therapist to overcome sleep insomnia.
e) Reduction of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD):
Traumas, incidents or accidents are cruel enough, but the worst is to carry it around for the rest of your life. This burden can cripple a human for his entire existence. One of the primary tools to handle this is to bring yoga into your day to day life, as it heals the person at a deeper energetic level. Hence, more than 50% of Indian prisons have started having a session of yoga regularly, and the changes seen is amazing.
f) Enjoying Life:
One of the major comment every individual who does yoga usually says, is that they find themselves to be peaceful, calm, burden free, relaxed and happy about themselves. The correct form of yoga makes a person view life from a higher perspective, and make him feel joyful throughout the day. Most people who do yoga, usually feel more energetic and good after the session. Which plays a major role in reducing depression, frustration and stress. The right type of yoga, has its own numerous physical and psychological benefits and can make it an important part of your therapeutic process.
